Videos are a powerful messaging tool and play an important role on a webpage. When done well, videos can pack a lot of information into a short time in a way that is both visually appealing and quick to consume. Plus, video captures a dynamic view of life on campus in a way that static images or written descriptions simply cannot do justice.
These are a few of the reasons that video is has become one of the preferred storytelling mediums for college students.
Expectations for Videos
- All videos embedded on website must be hosted via YouTube through an official WSU YouTube account
- An exception may be made for a third-party video that is helpful for people trying to complete a task
- Other third-party videos will be linked to as regular hyperlink in the content or possibly the right navigation panel
- Videos must meet technical and aesthetic standards, including but not limited to:
- Formatted in 16:9 ratio
- Saved in a YouTube supported file type
- Branded with standard WSU opening and closing slides
- Follow proper naming conventions when uploaded
- Videos must meet accessibility standards
- Videos must be embedded through standard templates
- Standalone iframe embed codes are not permitted in main content areas
- Video iframes cannot be embedded in the right navigation panel
If a video has audio, it is set to play once a user clicks the video
If a video does not have audio, it is set to play automatically
